I applied to over twenty AmeriCorps programs in the span of five months during my senior year of college because I knew a year of service would give me the opportunity to make an immediate impact on the world around me. Last April, after countless cover letters, resumes and phone interviews, I received an offer to be a MACC AmeriCorps*VISTA at the University of Massachusetts-Boston. Since I stepped foot on campus last August, I have done exactly what I set out to do by engaging almost 400 volunteers in over 1,500 hours of volunteer programming with 40 different community organizations in the Greater Boston Area thanks to the combined effort of members of my ProjectServe initiative. More than anything, this experience has opened my eyes to the potential futures that lie before me. To any peers in the place where I was a year ago, have you submitted your first AmeriCorps application yet?
