Nearly two years ago, I chose to leave one form of public service to embrace a new service journey, as a Massachusetts Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA. Not only has being MACC AmeriCorps*VISTA, given me the opportunity to serve within and amongst individuals that also call Western Massachusetts home, but also the chance to be a part of a five college collaborative that is: Building partnerships and creating a vision of what campus and community can strive to be. Additionally, over the past two years, I have been able to contribute to building the capacity for community based- learning partnerships within the STEM disciplines. Developed a concrete Five College Inc. Community Based-Learning Committee presence in Holyoke, MA. Assisted in sustaining institutional commitment to a full-time Partnership Coordinator. Lastly, challenged campuses to assess their impact within the communities and programs they engage with. Now, 7 weeks away from completing my second term of service and from embarking on my next public service exploration (as a full-time MPA graduate student), I am thankful for the opportunities (professional and personal) that Massachusetts Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA has provided for me.
