Springfield College is one of just four higher education institutions in the nation to receive the Presidential Award for community service in the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, announced in late September. The college received highest honors in the Education category. It was also named to the Honor Roll in the General Community Service category.
UMass Dartmouth was one of 16 Presidential Award Finalists named nationally, earning the honor in the Economic Opportunity category. It was also named to the Honor Roll in all three other categories: Education, General Community Service, and Interfaith Community Service.
In all, more than two dozen MACC member colleges and universities were named to the Honor Roll, making Massachusetts one of the most broadly recognized states in the nation. Many of the MACC members honored received the award in more than one category.
The President’s Honor Roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise the visibility of effective practices in campus community partnerships. The Honor Roll’s Presidential Award is the highest federal recognition an institution can receive for its commitment to community, service-learning, and civic engagement.
CNCS has administered the Honor Roll since 2006 in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education, Campus Compact, and the Interfaith Youth Core.
